The Raingutter Regatta is similar to the Pinewood derby except the boys build a sailboat instead of a car. The boats are made of balsa wood which makes them easier to shape than the pinewood derby cars. Like the Pinewood derby, participating in the Raingutter Regatta gives the Scout the satisfaction of designing, building, and racing against their fellow Scouts.
The track for the race consists of 2-10 foot sections of raingutter that are filled with water. Two scouts will race their boats by blowing into their boat's sail. The first boat to reach the end of the raingutter wins the heat. Pack 222 rotates this event every other year with the Space Rocket Derby. |
